Natural ways to purify the home, no matter the weather

Coughing. Sneezing. Headaches. These are all some of the things we would have when we got home. Living on the Wasatch Range, we have some of the worst pollution, right behind LA! Living in Utah we get a lot of snow and cold days/nights, so we also were wanting ways to purify that didn’t include increased ventilation and natural air conditioning. We decided to look into simple ways we could naturally purify the home on a budget and see if it made a difference. What we found:

  1. Buying plants is affordable, you can buy several on a budget. We bought 15 varieties of plants and have them dispersed through every room in the house. Majority of these plants are easy to keep alive. ( I can’t seem to keep an orchid alive)
    1. Mother-in-laws tongue
    2. Bamboo Palm
    3. Snake Plant
    4. Peace Lily
    5. Boston Fern
    6. Rubber Tree
    7. Aloe Plant20160118_102433
  2. Beeswax Candles
    1. Emits negative ions as it burns purifying air of toxins, allergens, mold, odors, dust.
    2. Beeswax is renewable, no chemicals, non-toxic, clean burning, ,very efficient, long burn time.

  4. Bamboo Charcoal DIY
    1. Activated bamboo charcoal removes bacteria, harmful pollutants and allergens from the air and absorbs moisture, preventing mold and mildew by trapping the impurities inside each pore. Some studies show a reduction in the  amount of formaldehyde, ammonia, benzene, and chloroform gases emitted from everyday items such as paint, carpeting, furniture, air fresheners, chemical cleaners, rubber, and plastics.
    2. You can make or buy these. Keep one in the car, kitchen, bedroom, living room, and bathroom. Moso Bamboo Charcoal Bags
    3. If you like DIY you can make these too!  You can make small square bags fill them up with bulk activated charcoal online and add some ribbon so you can hang them up on your doors.
      1. Ribbon
      2. Fabric
      3. Thread
      4. Activated Charcoal, I have seen people used the powder form as well. I have even seen some people use a activated filter cabin for fish tanks. I suggest finding any activated bamboo charcoal. Bamboo has several health benefits and is the most popular for air purifiers.
  5. Palo Santa Wood
    1. Palo Santo is from South America and has been used for hundreds of years
    2. It is an excellent purifier, relaxant, and cleansing of stagnant or excessive energy.

We have been using these natural ways to purify the air in our home and it has worked! Colds, flu, headaches, sneezing, allergies all rarely happen now. When we come home I feel I can breathe and relax, as if a cloud as been lifted above our home.
